"WASHINGTON — Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign has gone through its second shake-up in a year as Mr. McCain, responding to Republican concerns that his candidacy was faltering, put Steve Schmidt in charge of day-to-day operations and abandoned an effort to have the campaign run by 11 regional managers, the senator’s aides said Wednesday.
Mr. Schmidt is a veteran of President Bush’s 2004 re-election campaign and he worked closely with Karl Rove, who was Mr. Bush’s political adviser. His installation at Mr. McCain’s headquarters sharply diminished the responsibilities of Rick Davis, who has been Mr. McCain’s campaign manager since the last shake-up nearly a year ago.
Mr. McCain’s advisers said that Mr. Davis would continue to hold the position of campaign manager, but that Mr. Schmidt had taken over every major operation where Mr. McCain has shown signs of struggling: communications, scheduling and basic political strategy.
The shift was approved by Mr. McCain after several aides, including Mr. Schmidt, warned him about 10 days ago that he was in danger of losing the presidential election unless he revamped his campaign operation, according to two officials close to the campaign.
Mr. Schmidt and Mr. Davis declined requests for comment. . ."
I think that one of the most important job duties for a president is managing a good team and hiring well. A heated campaign can offer us a preview of those skills. I cannot imagine being so bad at hiring that I would need to fire as many staff as often as McCain, just as I dream of being as good at hiring and managing as Obama. From what I hear from within the Obama campaign, there is great internal admiration for how well it is run and for the skills of its national and local management. Of course, I don't hear anything from within the McCain campaign - it only barely exists in my state (Missouri).
Have you notice that everywhere Senator McCain goes Senator Lieberman is there, whispering in his ear? Charlie McCarthy, again.
Watch for it as you see Senator McCain in his "South American" tour. There he is, standing by McCain's side, running the show.
Here is the most notorious example from the "Middle East" tour. It is not unique. Senator McCain required whispered prompts from Senator Graham and Senator Lieberman. One to get started and another to stay on the tracks. Senator McCain, like some of my clients, goes nowhere alone. See also http://tinyurl.com/4pbyl4
Republican voters may wish to wonder who will be running the government if Senator McCain is elected.
Nobody knows. I suppose it depends upon who whispers the loudest.
Well, Obama has to be careful when his teleprompter is not present, and also how he handles his sidewinding to the center. Just another politician, regardless of what he says.

Well, DOH! Of course he's a politician. What did you think he was, Delta? What intrigues a number of folks is that he says some sensible things and says them in full, well developed paragraphs--with or without the teleprompter. That's a change that's refreshing.

Good luck with your vote for Bob Barr, Delta. You appear to have written off other choices. Or are you just staying home and sucking your thumb this year?
Bob Barr is just another idiot. Give me a little credit Larry. Some political commentator said these two prospects are the sorriest he has seen in a while, and I've got to agree with him. Tell me what they have to offer, nothing. Let's all suck our thumbs.
Since when is Rush a political commentator? He is an entertainer (but not a very good one) and a political hack and water boy. He's better at that, but still not too good. http://tinyurl.com/yb4x7p
Of course, entertainment is in the mind of the audience. I liked Carlin and the Firesign Theater. To each their own I suppose.
