Posted: Fri Jul 04, 2008 09:40 pm Post subject: Why was John McCain in Columbia for the hostage rescue?
Today CNN televised a press conference by the Columbian Army. A Columbian officer explained that Columbia informed the U.S. President 10 days before the rescue of the FARC prisoners. This advance notice had been promised to the President of the United States. The United States provided some logistical support and some devices to place on the rescue helicopter. Seven days before the rescue the U.S. Ambassador to Columbia was informed of the mission by the Columbian officer.
As fate would have it, the Republican Presidential Candidate announced a South American tour the next day, on June 24, 2008. That happily put Senator McCain in Columbia on the day of the rescue. That is, the first American Presidential candidate to visit Columbia, ever, "happened" to be there on the very day of the rescue and happened to announce his visit within 24 hours of the date that the White House was informed.
I'd believe it's a coincidence that the visit itself was a coincidence. After all, strange things do happen. But here we have two highly unlikely coincidences. The first is the timing of the announcement of the visit. The second is the timing of the one-day visit itself.
To what extent was the Republican Presidential candidate informed of a top secret foreign rescue mission by the White House or the Columbian government while no other nations were informed the rescue? For example, the Columbian officer speaking at the press conference carefully responded to questions about the non-involvement by other governments and asserted that France and Israel had no prior notice of the mission. A French citizen was among those freed by the secret mission.
To what extent did the White House put the rescue and the hostages at risk by informing Senator McCain? To what extent was McCain coordinating his campaign with a foreign government?
If you think it was a "happy coincidence" let me know and I will send you some aluminum foil so you can make a hat.
That was a wonderfully succinct and essential question. Thanks for asking!
If Senator McCain played politics with the lives of the hostages and the people who rescued the hostages, then Senator McCain is not fit to be a Senator, much less a President.
If the White House or other elements of the United States government played politics with classified information regarding a rescue of prisoners held by a terrorist orgainzation, that was a felony.
If White House or other government resources were involved in manipulating the schedule of a political candidate to coincide with a hostage rescue that violated the Hatch Act.
If Senator McCain had a heads-up about the rescue when he made his travel plans then he lied to us about when he learned about the rescue.
On the other hand, it may be that Senator McCain was clueless about why he was going to Columbia because his campaign manager set up the trip up after getting the heads-up from the White House. That would explain why McCain fired the leadership of his campaign on the way home. He was blindsided by his own handlers. This is consistent with Senator McCain's need for handlers whispering in his ear at public events. He is clueless to the extent that he does not even know what is going on in his campaign.
If any of this is true than you do not want to vote for Senator McCain. He is either incompetent, clueless, party to a felony, or heedless of the safety of hostages and law enforcement personnel. In any event, he must not become President.
Whether or not anything you pointed out in your missive is true, your last paragraph points out clearly the qualifications of Obama. He is an empty suit, as is McCain. What we have here is two losers.
I said nothing about Senator Obama so far in this string. Indeed, Senator Obama appears to have not received the heads up about the rescue.
If Senator Obama is an empty suit, he is an empty suit with an IQ strong enough to be President of the Harvard Law Review, who does not commit felonies, who is not clueless, who does not need two other Senators by his side whispering prompts. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvard_Law_Review
