I do more background checking and I have more interviews when I hire a babysitter than Senator McCain performed on his Vice President choice. Who knows what will come out in the next few days. It would not surprise me if it turned out that Mrs. Palin was a former member of an extreme political party that advocated a membership vote regarding breaking away from the United States. (Just kidding, a person would have to be batshit crazy to join a political party like that!)
Quote:
Aides to Mr. McCain said they had a team on the ground in Alaska now to look more thoroughly into Ms. Palin’s background. A Republican with ties to the campaign said the team assigned to vet Ms. Palin in Alaska had not arrived there until Thursday, a day before Mr. McCain stunned the political world with his vice-presidential choice. The campaign was still calling Republican operatives as late as Sunday night asking them to go to Alaska to deal with the unexpected candidacy of Ms. Palin.
Although the McCain campaign said that Mr. McCain had known about Bristol Palin’s pregnancy before he asked her mother to join him on the ticket and that he did not consider it disqualifying, top aides were vague on Monday about how and when he had learned of the pregnancy, and from whom.
While there was no sign that her formal nomination this week was in jeopardy, the questions swirling around Ms. Palin on the first day of the Republican National Convention, already disrupted by Hurricane Gustav, brought anxiety to Republicans who worried that Democrats would use the selection of Ms. Palin to question Mr. McCain’s judgment and his ability to make crucial decisions.
At the least, Republicans close to the campaign said it was increasingly apparent that Ms. Palin had been selected as Mr. McCain’s running mate with more haste than McCain advisers initially described.
It would have been more difficult to find a more extreme running mate.
Quote:
The AIP platform states that the purpose of the party is to "seek the complete repatriation of the public lands, held by the federal government, to the state and people of Alaska in conformance with Article 1, Section 8, Clause 17, of the federal constitution ... To prohibit all bureaucratic regulations and judicial rulings purporting to have the effect of law, except that which shall be approved by the elected legislature ... To support the privatization of government services ...”
The Associated Press is reporting that Senator McCain's attorney interviewed Gov. Palin for three hours before she was selected. Since I only have two interviews with our prospective baby sitters that total less than two hours, the interview process to select the person who would be a heartbeat away from controlling the most powerful nuclear military in the history of the world was more extensive than my babysitter interviews.
However, I call references before making a hiring decision. It appears that this was not done for Palin.

I agree. If this is a sign of Sen. McCain's executive ability, oh my.
But wait! The conservative pundits have issued a proclamation, to whit and namely, Governor (20 months) Palin has ooh-gobs of executive experience based on her time as mayor. They want us to believe that it is extraordinarily trying to be the mayor of a city/town of some 8,000 persons. Perhaps it was the proximity to Russia that made this experience somehow more weighty. Whatever, Karl Rove and Newt Gingrich have proclaimed it with straight faces.
Interestingly, the population of the entire State of Alaska is smaller than the population of Milwaukee County, in Wisconsin. The population of Alaska is about half the size of the whole Milwaukee metro area. We have more colleges in the Milwaukee metro area and a professional baseball team! (Yea Brewers!) Indeed, we might have more polar bears (I'll have to go to the zoo and count them!)
We even have a better professional hockey team! Go Admirals! (the Alaska Aces suck!)
What a wonderful speaker! As long as she has that team of speech writers she will do really well on the stump.
Where the hell was her American flag pin? (Just kidding.)
I like that she is supportive (now) of families with special children. That's extremely important to the disabled children I represent. However, the support we need is health insurance that does not have a $10,000 deductible for each family member, each year. The families I represent need health insurance because they have none at all.
I wonder how she will do at a press conference? Well, let's see:
