In a move that is so bizarre that folks are having a hard time wrapping their brains around it, Sen. McCain has urged President Bush to implement a $1,000,000,000,000 bailout without Congressional approval.
No, I'm not making that up. It's hard to track the history of this latest development, but I will try.
First Sen. McCain said there was no problem and that the fundamentals were strong.
The next day he swore that what he had always meant by "fundamentals" was "the American worker." How DARE they attack the American worker he generally claimed.
Then he "suspended" his campaign to go to "Washington." It took him more than a day to get there. He had to make some television apperaances and drop by President Clintion's global initiative conference first.
He lied to David Letterman to get off the Letterman Show (bad mistake).
When Sen McCain eventually got to Washington he sat in a campaign office and "phoned it in." He then railed on Obama for "phoning it in."
Then, Sen McCain claimed credit for the passage of the bailout package. Yippie!
. . . which then failed to pass.
Then, he said that he might have to "suspend" his campaign again to fix this urgent problem. I thought it was already in suspension. When did he un-suspended it?
Then said he would not make this all political
. . . in the next sentence McCain blamed Obama and the Democrats for the failure of the bill to pass. It was Pelosi's speech that made the Republican Congress members throw America under the bus. How dare she hurt their feelings like that!
Now, and really, I'm not making this up, Sen McCain has called for the President to do it all without Congressional involvement. Wow, it's been a busy 10 days!
The strange thing is that some people are actually going to go to the polls on November 4th and vote for Sen. McCain. The happy thing is there won't be too many of them.
