For those of you who might want or need to reach ODAR and/or the Appeals Council, be advised that you will not be able to do so today, Tuesday the 9th. Both Washington DC (ODAR headquarters in Northern VA) and SSA Headquarters in Woodlawn MD (suburban Baltimore) are closed. We have another major winter storm bearing down on us bringing, they say, 6-16 inches in DC, more like 10-20 inches here in Baltimore. Problem is, there is no place to put any more snow. Snow plows (of which we have seen none here on Federal Hill) are worthless when there is no place to push the snow. So this snow is simply going to sit here, collapsing more roofs, until it warms up and melts.
Cruising the traffic cams on local news radio WTOP, the major roads seem to be clear. Side roads must surely be a different story. As late as yesterday Metro wasn't running trains for its above ground stations. There's still only limited Metro service today.
Although we lost power on my street for only about 12 hours during the heaviest part of the storm, WTOP reports that some are still without power this morning—meaning no power for four days (lows have been mostly in the teens). It's easy to suspect the usual culprits: fallen trees. Within a few hundred yards of my home (in a heavily wooded community) there are a half dozen roadside downed trees.
Six to eight inches counts as a heavy snowfall in these parts. It's been a good few years since we've had even that. So there aren't many snow blowers round about here. It's all been shovel work. With 26 inches of snow covering 50-foot long driveways, and with elderly neighbors to boot, by Monday morning I was one tired puppy. I'm keeping the naproxyn next to the salt cellar. _________________ I've posted this in my private capacity. What I post might be wrong. Probably, it IS wrong. Any errors are my own. And another big storm today! Meanwhile my snow blower has been collecting dust this year. Who would have figured? Hope you all get dug out of this soon, and don't hurt your back!

Just shoveled off the decks and roof as a precaution. Since most folks didn't even do that for the last storm (26 inches or so here in the city), with the addition of this snow (maybe another 20), a lot of roofs are going to collapse and leaks will be common. At the moment, as predicted, it is starting to both snow hard and blow horizontally.
And amazingly enough, my back is holding up, despite moving tons (literally) of snow the last five days. I attribute it to golf.
